USD200 is the pre-release price -will have to compete (blow away??) with the Minix X7.

It seems Geniatech is promissing the initial selling price will be under $200...
(quote from cnxsoft, link to full article below)
Inquiring mind may be able to find Mygica ATV1800 for $199.90 including shipping in Geniatech’s Aliexpress online store, but after contacting sales, they told me the device would only be available around the 20th of December, and the price will be lower.
More information in this nice article:

Well I was going to buy an amlogic quad core tv box but instead i bought a quad core rockchip tv box. The reason is that rockchip is cheaper and xbmc version 13 supports hardware acceleration for rockchip and drops support for amlogic

Hmmm - sorry but I disagree!

I bought a Quad Core RK3188 device - a Minix Neo X7 thinking that it would be great for XBMC. It was a BIG mistake - my Dual Core G-Box MX2 (g18ref) clone blows it away - plays just about everything (streaming) in XBMC - 1080p video - smooth as butter - no stuttering.

Put quite simply - it is brilliant! By comparison, the Minix X7 is pants - and was a total waste of money!

When the Amlogic Quad Core M802 hits the streets it will kill the Minix X7 (& other RK3188 devices) dead!

I have a CS968. I bought it for 87$ and it plays 1080p flawlessly with xbmc version 13 alpha 7. As a matter of fact I' m uploading a review on youtube as we speak and I test the xbmc with 720p and 1080p

Look mate - I don't wish to be rude but please do not hijack this thread with RK3188 stuff - there is a dedicated area for this device here.

I started this thread to discuss the Amlogic Quad Core M802 - here in the area designated "AMLogic based TV players"

    Thanks

    I also disagree..
Amlogic.. is king when it comes to Xbmc..

also... the official xbmc versions realy never worked properly..on many h/w
Whille xbmc no-longer supports amlogic..pivosgroup and other continue to bring out monthly builds
I always used 'mygica' builds.. for my amlogic

When it comes to xbmc on my amlogic.. its
    -stable
-it plays everthing what my rk3188's do.. but the screen looks better..
(ncis la I can see the scar on his face, on rk3188 his head is a blur.. )
Try playing ''ghost in shell' the new one on veehd its 1080.. amlogic played it flawless..
(where the 3188 failed - even trying to use mx.. it only gives option soft-render.. )

However.. browsing.. and gaming.. the rk3188 currently rules.. (more ram-mhz-cores)
    But when quad-core amlogic.. come's-out..
However... the need to act fast..because
big.little is changing the market.. with openmax support..h.265/usb3/sata and communty suport.. (q2 2014 looks bright)

    @mitchell4you

I struggled for ages with my Minix X7 (like so many still are - just look at the complaints on the Minix forum) - it just would not play 1080 as it should. Games etc yeah - the best - but I dont play games. My X7 was bought off an eBay ad that said its played 1080p - anyway that's history.

Amlogic is (as you say) King for XBMC.

Can you provide me link to the version that you are using -would like to try it out.

    (Is it this one:- http://www.mygica.de/download/ATV120...g-20130330.zip)

On the M802 front I keep pestering my source in HK for a unit - but so far no go

I wonder how long it will take for this new quad core SoC to get in a good and stable state. Even if the CPU peculiarities are the same as the current AML8726s (which means some of the existing HW acceleration code / drivers can ne reused), the GPU is different (MALI-450MP6 vs Mali-400MP4) so I would expect that additional development would be required to get a good version of XBMC out there with proper hardware acceleration.

I still do not have a device, as I was debating between AM8726-M6/X versus RK3188 based TV boxes, and at this point I will probably wait for a couple of more months to see what this new AMLogic based one can do. I do not mind to pay a bit more but get the best out there. Let's wait and see...

Another demo of the Geniatech ATV1800. The presenter mentions a December availability.

    Confused....

OK, I'm new to the AMLogic chips. I see both S802 Quad and M802 Quad being advertised interchangeably. I have seen adds for the M802 Quad TV box with the S802 Quad chip listed in the specs. I see tablets advertised listing the M802 Quad as the SoC. I am very confused...

    M802 Quad = AML8726-M8?
    S802 Quad = AML8276-M8?

    Differences?

I want to retire my Atom/ION2 HTPC (XBMC). The RPi I tried just doesn't cut it for Blu-Ray rips over WiFi (300mb/s). RK3188 just isn't "smooth" enough and doesn't appear to be supported for HW decode in XBMC.
