well if you enable expert settings, in video/playback there are two options - enable libstagefright and enable mediacodec.

but gotham alpha 8 doesn't contain mediacodec yet, so it's good to go.

Yes, when i connect the K-r42 to my computer it is not recognized. I am using the OTG port on the box and the usb port on my computer. All i get in the device manager is "unknown device" and a yellow exclamation mark beside it. I tried disabling and re-enabling the usb ports but still not working. Any one else have thisproblem. Its a Dell laptop with windows 7. Thanks.

How do I set the screen to stay right on the edge of the tv when using AV mode for CRT TVs?

When I use HDMI on LCD TV is all right, but when AV use in CRT TV, the TV cuts a little side = (

installed this 3.2 beta firmware on "K-R42 - Rev 2.1 - 31.05.2013" but ethernet has packet loss issues. which kernel to use to resolve? I did install several already but if it resolves the ethernet lan issue than it reduces the cpu to 1400 Mhz... would be great to just have this same kernel build into the firmware including the ethernet fix. how could i apply the ethernet packet loss fix manually to the existing kernel?

Look at my signature.
The best way is HFW with wasser new rev kernel.
Yes cpu is limited to 1.4GHz but video playback is nearly smooth even on heavy 1080p h264 mkv...

I have tried that already without the same good results that you are describing. I will stick to Wifi with this 3.2 beta for now. Looking forward to a new rev kernel which includes default cpu clocks or even slight OC including working ethernet. Wifi is ok for now so I will just wait...

Ans thanks to all developers for your efforts in making us more happy :-)

This may have been brought up before but I have not been able to find. I am running the latest 3.2 firmware but having an issue after power loss. When I try to turn on the k-r42 device I just get a black screen. It takes multiple boots and unplug and replug in the power and reset button pushes for me to get back to a usable video output. sometimes it tries to come up but gives only static on the screen. Any ideas on what to do or the sequence needed to regain usable video output. It will always give useable video output when you boot into recovery. This happens on 3 different k-r42's and as happened on all Lewy firmwares to date.

Thanks Lewy for your awesome work.
HFW 3.2 runs very smooth for me but unfortunately Wifi is not that perfect for watching very large videos so I rather would love to have ethernet working. Is there any chance to get a kernel for rev 2.1 which contains the ethernet fix and keeps the default cpu clock up to 1600 Mhz? (or maybe even oc?)

If there is anything I could do on my own please let me know. Tried to overclock the new kernel by wasser to have 1600 Mhz but it seems that the cpu clock table is missing from the kernel so it cannot be patched using: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?7150-rkpatchomatic-tool-overclock-vsync-fix-any-binary-rk3188-kernel

any idea or hint is highly appreciated :-)

Hello Turbolooser,
you seem to be very happy with you TV box.
I have a K-R42 v2.1 too.

In your signature you write HFW 3.2 beta - Wasser 1.2.3 new rev kernel.

Could you tell me the process to put HFW 3.2 and wasser 1.2.3.

I tried to use the RKandroidtoll v1.37. but the differrent files : "kernel, boot, misc, system..." is a little bit confusing for me. I don't understand what is the file for hardware firware, what is the file for the android kernel,...

Thanks in advance.

Firmware Version 3.2 runs fine here. Thanks Lewy.

But I have a problem with the Youtube for Google TV 1.7.3.

With the old Version every stream played fine. With this new version i get some "Stream unsupported" messages for whatever reason.

Could someone try like for example the official Milly Cyrus Wrecking Ball Spot ?

It worked with Youtube for Google TV 1.6 (That was the one in 2.0.4 i think), because with 1.7.3 i get the unsupported message.

And where to download the old Youtube for Google TV ?

Greetings.

so you flashed boot.img + kernel.img from wasser 1.2.4 new rev after flashing HFW 3.2 beta?
what cpu clock do you have now? would the oc kernels work with that setup also?

I select all from wasser firmware (misc, boot, kernel...) except system.img from HFW 3.2

With wasser new rev kernel it is limited to 1.4Ghz even with oc kernels :face, I think that there is a cpu table problem in this new revision kernel.

Ethernet works fine (I do not use wifi) but I did not check if there was packet lost. I'll be able to have a look next week as I am currently "out of home" in Berlin :p.

Just my contribution:
A script which tells you if your device is asleep (because SSHdroid works even in sleep mode):

#!/system/bin/sh
HODNOTA=`cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq`
if [ "$HODNOTA" == "816000" ]; then
echo "Sleeping"
else
if [ "$HODNOTA" == "1608000" ]; then
echo "Awake"
else
echo "Unknown: $HODNOTA"
fi
fi

A script to make the device go asleep:

#!/system/bin/sh
if [ "`cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq`" == "1608000" ]; then
su -c sync
su -c input keyevent 26
echo "Sleeped"
else
echo "Not awake"
fi

A sleep to wake the device:

#!/system/bin/sh
if [ "`cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq`" == "816000" ]; then
su -c sync
su -c input keyevent 26
echo "Waked"
else
echo "Not asleep"
fi

if you have them on sdcard then you must run them like this: "sh ./script.sh", however, if you copy them for example to /data/local/bin (the bin needs to be created) then it will be possible to execute them from any location and without using the "sh" so its just "script.sh" anywhere - this is because /data/local/bin is in PATH and also the /data filesystem is not mounted with noexec)

I just switched from Wasser firmware 1.2.4 to Lewy HFW v3.2 firmware (due to no optical pass through in Wasser) and have found that the Add Ons / Programs dialogue in JustXBMCv4.apk crashes out of XMBC every time. I've been trying to add some Android apps such as MX Player and cannot do so because of this problem. I'm using an old revision K-R42, no custom kernel. Anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know a fix? JustXBMCv4.apk did not crash in this way in any other firmware I have loaded, just Lewy HFW v3.2.

On HFW 1.2.0 firmware BeyondXBMC and SPMC "think" that OK button on stock remote is Menu. According to BeyondXBMC author on latest firmware from wasser all remote keys work just fine. Any idea on how this can be fixed?

I played with it a little bit more.
First of all let me correct my previous statement - Menu key does work, but behaves like "Back" key.
Now to the more interesting stuff - I enabled Debug Log in XBMC and looked for "key events" in log file; for some reason on BeyondXBMC I don't see any; neither for keys that work as expected (arrows) nor for ok/menu keys. If I do the same on XBMC Minix Beta (2013-01-09 release, based on Gotham Alpha 6) - I see key events in xbmc.log for each remote key press.
Any idea what this could mean?

Perhaps this works for you:
====================
"First off, If you have never previously installed Rockchip drivers on your system you might need to do those steps before doing the ones above:
1) First you need do reboot windows with driver signature disabled: configure->change pc settings-> update & recovery -> recovery-> advanced startup -> troubleshoot -> advanced options -> restart -> 7

2) After reboot, go to folder where is windows 8 rockchip driver: right click on rockusb.inf and click install.

THEN:
1. Connect your device to the computer in flash mode. The computer will say “USB Device Not Recognized”. Go to Device Manager and you will see your device listed as “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)” in “Universal Serial Bus controllers” section

2. Now in “Universal Serial Bus controllers” section you should also have “USB Root Hub”’s (might be several of them). Click through them and find the one that has “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)” in the “Power” tab (should be next to General).

3. Right click on that “USB Root Hub” and press “Disable”. Now you should have a small arrow pointing down on the USB Root Hub icon and the “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)” should have disappeared.

4. Now you have to go to the folder where the RKBatchTool is located on your system. Find the file "config.ini" and open it. Find the section where it says:

LOGFLAG=TRUE
#SUPPORTLOWUSB=TRUE时,扫描支持full speed usb设备,默认只支持high speed usb设备
SUPPORTLOWUSB=

Write TRUE next to the second “SUPPORTLOWUSB=”

It should be like this:

LOGFLAG=TRUE
#SUPPORTLOWUSB=TRUE时,扫描支持full speed usb设备,默认只支持high speed usb设备
SUPPORTLOWUSB=TRUE

Save the file and open the RKBatchTool as usual and you should see the green square in Connected Devices.

Now you will be able to flash the rom. The flashing process might take longer than usual but it works."

Female USB to microUSB combined with a USB male to male will not work. Only one-piece USB male to MicroUSB will do the trick!

I will flash test and share my experiense with this rom
Thank you for helping me on this!

3. boot to android
4. go to android setting>development settings>turn on usb debbuging
5. go to usb and check connect to pc
6. on pc in ROM_Flash_Tool_137 click reboot to safe mode
7. now open RKBatchTool.exe
8. there should be green box on screen.
9. now folow the normal install of rom. (remember to click restore not upgrade)

also try difrent usb on your pc and be sure to not use any kind of hubs etc.

I have clicked upgrade instead of restore by mistake.
Now I cannot connect the tv box to the computer... Any suggestions?

Pull of charger and all cables. Restart computer. Put USB cable both to box and computer. Then hold recovery button on box and connect charger.

Thanks for your replay. I have tried this already but I cannot install driver anymore.
Before the 'upgrade' I could see the TV box, now I cannot. Please see the attached screen shots.
Thanks for trying to help.

Can you open it and tell us your PCB type?

The led became red right after I did the "upgrade" instead of recover...

One of the PCB reads: Rockchip RK1000-S H1899 1344
Another one Realtek RTL8188EUS

So we have stock firmware from geekbuying here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/zqkdqhznq9dxzwy/Q7_1220_update(1).rar

I suppose that RKBatchtool does not see the device. DOes RKAndroidtool see it?
To be confident, can you describe your upgrade process step by step? I mean exacly what happening on the computer and what device is doing.

And at both, the "ROM_Flash_Tool_137 (RKAndroidtool)" and the "RKBatchTool", there exists a log subdirectory, so perhaps you can attach the log-file(s) (~18.02.2014 or witch day you try; perhaps you know at witch time you try it), perhaps it helps to identify what happens ...

I see that there is unlocked bluetooth, so would this work on the T-R42? And how does this rom stream 720p and 1080p Cause currently I can not get a rom to stream even 720p clearly

No RKBatch tool does not see the device. I cannot install the driver anymore ...

I had some issues with the video, and I wanted to upgrade the firmware. I have downloaded RKbatch tool, the drivers and the RK3188(T)_BOX_SZTENA_BX09_B351_AP6210_20130927.img file

I have installed the driver, opened the RKBatch tool, selected the iso file and clicked on upgrade instead of restore... After that, the message was "successfully installed"... but the power led tuned red instead of blue...

And since then I could not connect the box to the computer anymore.

Hi Lewy20041, i have flashed my k-r42 to the new beta v3xx firmware of yours,it all works awesomely,but i have a bit of a problem here.I have changed to uk keyboard layout but when i try to make the @ symbol it's still using a us layout where i have to press shift and 2 key to get it any idea what is going on here anyone? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

,any way about v3.xx beta firmware,it is not letting me use all apps to my sd card with the vold.fstab edit and keeps stating memory is low for install when it can't be the damn sd card is 32gb,and is working data stores to it so what the heck is going on there,i never had that in the 1.2.1 hfw so why in 3 beta? Also again keyboard layout choice doesn't give me english @ symbols and guessing other sysmbols either.It constantly adds additional keystrokes i have not applied or i have but it automaticaly continues doing that from time to time when i write a sentance,and an occassionaly glitchy line appears rarely but it does at the top of the display,like a line of interference.

i need an update.zip or an update.img of stock firmware for T-R42 B351 V1.0 or V1.1
to be put into the external sd card to recover the system

I have recovery version 4.2.01, that prompts for this options:

update from external storage: needs update.zip

update rkimage from external storage: needs update.img

I have no other options because my pc is no more able to recognize my T-R42 B351 V1.1

Where can i found such files?

I'm in exactly the same situation as you. There don't seem to be any .img files that work floating around the net. I think we need a properly created "update.zip" file that has the META-INF folder etc. Please let me know if you find a solution to this!

Hello,
ok
I asked to lewy20041,
he answered me to try this:

Google mask rom mode

To put the device in such mode, must be located the NAND module on the device and shortened 2 pins

In this way, flash memory will be reset and the RKBatchTool will find the device

The question is: where is the NAND module?

Please let me know if you know where is located and where are the 2 pins to be shortened...

thank you,
but now i have still the stock recovery...
and for now i have no other way to update the system than this recovery...
the device is not seen by the pc, so to install the cwm recovery i need s valid zip of cwm to be loaded through stock recovery...
do you have it?

if not, my path to recover my device is:
build a valid zip with all rom components (i have still to decide which rom to use...i need the rom components splitted , not a unique img file...perhaps some wasser custom rom)
with the above tools

load it through stock recovery...
then i think the device should become visible to the pc (i hope)

then, load the cwm recovery, useful for future updates and future bricks :)

by the way, do you know how to split a whole rom img file in its components?

thanks!!

If adb works try this:

adb shell cat /proc/cmdline
then you can see the bootloader version...

PS:
If 'normal mode' connection vis 'settings->DEVICE/USB->connect to pc => ON' works, try

adb reboot bootloader

Nazdar brachu Lewy20041!

I have previously flashed your firmware 2.0.3. That was fine in the beginning, later crashed and my android box was many times frozen.
Then I flashed your newest firmware 3.2 which seems to work fine, however I recognize poor webcam support, the skype audio call does not work. The same applies for Hangouts as well, trouble with the microphone, the voice is extremely thin and this application therefore is useless.
Could you advise me what to do in order to make audio or video calls via any application?
Seriously waiting for your support!

Thanks

Hi,
New to this forum and to flashing TV boxes, but I've been flashing smartphones for a couple of years.
Flashed the latest beta without problem and it works, BUT the box (CS918) often shuts off or restarts when watching a movie/TV series via LAN. Doesn't matter if I use XBMC or Archos mediaplayer.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Have it set to 720p as my TV wont go higher.

I have a C918 and the latest beta firmware in 720p kernel mode like you. There are some restarts sometimes without any particular reason (like the tv-box sits there doing nothing) and might have to do with this kernel.

I think you have 2 options.
a) Use the last stable version and with a tiny performance penalty you should have a more stable system.
b) Install and test a different kernel version that match your device. You can find these kernels in wasser's posts of this thread or in wasser's firmware thread. The installation is easy without the need of flashing anything (you just rename the custom kernel to "kernel.img", put it in "/sdcard/HFW/" folder and click the "flash custom kernel" from setting-miscllaneous menu) but keep in mind that if you switch to 1080p kernel and back to 720p you will have to re-install the custom kernel as well (it gets overwritten by the default 720p kernel).

Thanks for this great firmware. I had a question, I plan on using my K-R42 in an arcade machine and want the Navigation Bar disabled since it eats up screen real estate. Is there a way to do this? We attempted to do it within our game app source code itself, but we were only able to get so far as darkening/graying out the navigation buttons by default. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

There is an option in the settings to Hide the bar permanently. Did you tried this? i don't remember where exactly but its there.

Im in the same situation building my arcade cabinet but i gave up the idea to put my cs918 inside because of the lack of a good android multi emulator frontend.

I didn't see it. I did find out there's a line of code you can add to build.prop to permanently hide it. Only problem is all these custom rooted firmwares have been extremely unstable on my K-R42, I need to figure out which kernel to use so it will stop crashing, freezing, and restarting.

Yeah I've heard this is the main detractor for most people making a MAME machine with an Android box. I haven't used MAME4Droid yet, but this doesn't look HORRIBLE. It's at least functional, which is all I would need personally. Although I'm not sure trackballs and spinners are properly supported since these are traditionally handled as mouse input on Windows, which causes them to get stuck on the sides of the screen on Android.

By the way I'm developing an original game for an arcade cabinet. I decided to use a K-R42 instead of a PC because it's about $200 cheaper, plus much lower power consumption!

I have a C918 and the latest beta firmware in 720p kernel mode like you.

Hey there psychorat,
I hope all is well!
There are three firmwares hosted on this tread... which one of the three are you using?
I am using 3.2 with 720 and am still getting random reboots.

One of the things I miss about Wassers v1.25 rom is the power menu/system... when I press the power button on my wireless USB keyboard, the C918 goes off, and when i press the power button on the device again, it comes to life. On this lewy's 3.2, when the device powers up again, there is no keyboard...

So, random reboots on all roms I have tried, and I guess I have run out of roms here, perhaps one of these kernels you are talking about...

Hi fredphoesh,
I would like to test some kernels before i suggest the better one, but i don't have my box right now (gave it to a friend for a couple of days) and i cannot help much on testing. I'll have it tomorrow or by the end of the week.

Meanwhile you could try the kernel from wasser's 1.25 firmware if it feels kinda right to you.

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered already. I couldn't find eny information on that.

It's a good thing that there are 3d party firmwares for this device. There is no guide on how to identify the proper revision, what is th difference between revisions, how's the flashing pricess to be done, how to choose the correct ROM, what will happen if you flash wrong ROM (given that there are so many versions of the device).

A guide with most important information would be great.

For example in my case, I have the device for a week now. There are no stickers, not any model numbers, revisions, etc. I can't find a way to open the case to make a picture of the PCB. So, I guess I'm stuck. How do I find the proper version ?

Thank you all.

Hello.
I've got 2 boxes (same board TN-BX09_V2.1).
I installed HWF 3.2 by lewy20041 on both and on one box hdmi&tv-out work simultaneous, and on another - not. If HDMI cable plugged into the box - no TV-out, if I unplug HDMI cable from box I can see signal from TV-out.
If I download this box in CWM from Advanced menu, I can see both signals at the same time. How can I fix this issue, pls help. I really need both outs together.

P.S. Tried different firmwares (from wasser 1.0.3 KK4.4.2 and 1.2.5 JB 4.2.2) - same issue on this box...

Excellent firmware! I am currently using firmware v3.2. With the default Remote control, is there any way to simulate scrolling? I mean in the touchscreen, you swype your finger to scroll. Is there a way to simulate this with the remote? Ex: go into mouse mod, press ok and down?

Hello "no_spam_for_me" and thanks for prompt reply!

There is no label. What is Q7 ?
Is it possible that geekbuying sell different devices using exactly same site-page (description)?

I have not opened the device? Should I? What should I look for?

For the mean time I tried 3 different firmwares:

K-R42_HFW_1.2.0_Final_1080p.img

All are giving "Restore Done Success<1> .... " from the Rockchip batch tool,
however still nothing shows when connecting the device to either HDMI or A/V.

I appreciate your further tips !

OK, even before your reply I tried to install a Q7 version Q7_1220_update(1).rar
This time the HDMI worked fine , but remote control not so much. I was asked to select a launcher vs new launcher but neither of them worked. Also home key did not work (but volume did), anyhow, it seems we are in the right direction.

Then I opened the back (thanks for explaining where the screws are !) , and a photo is attached.

Can you help me to identify the device?

There is no sticker, and the CPU (probably) is covered with heat sink.

As I wrote JB and KK for K-R42 new rev by wasser here at this sub-forum

OK, THIS TIME IT WORKED!

I have downloaded wasser-firmware-kr42-new-1.0.3.img
from http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?8647-UPDATE-K-R42-wasser-firmware-Kikat-Android-4-4-2
installed and tested. It works fine, showing well 1080P movies from my LAN, using mx-player on both HDMI and A/V (and this is the main purpose for me).

Wasser XBMC looks nice, and starting fast. However it does not communicate with the remote controller in mouse mode, making it impossible to enter texts.

In fact the remote controller is less functional here in comparison with the original stock firmware, as most of the buttons are not doing anything.

But I do not want to complain. The device is working and streams movies with much better visual quality than before.

So to summarize (in case someone else reads this) --- there are so many variations for the K-R42.
First one has to find out what is the exact device, by opening the cover (4 screws at the bottom below
the rubbers) and comparing PCB to photos in this forum. Then pick the correct firmware for this device, and install with RKbatch. This took me overall ~8 hours. So it is somewhat challenging, and one must enjoy overcoming this challenge otherwise not try this :-)

Thanks for all help !
Without your help I may have ended with a brick...

Do i need to flash the kernel-480p-19092013.zip (http://d-h.st/gId) and is this kernel compatible with HFW v1.2.0?
